Roslin Glen Gunpowder Mill

On Sunday, Mr Dido and I went for a walk in Roslin Glen, a beautiful wooded area just south of Edinburgh. Nowadays, thanks to the Da Vinci Code, it is most famous for nearby Rosslyn Chapel, but back in the days of the Napoleonic Wars it housed the largest gunpowder mill in the country! The mill produced gunpowder from around 1804 until 1954. Today's photo shows the location of the large water wheel (between the two walls) which was used to power the factory - you can't quite see the river but it runs right behind it.

That's cheating, Roslin isn't in Edinburgh.

I hope it didn't lose its roof in an explosion!

Roslin isn't cheating! The rules of the daily photo blog allow posters to include a town/city and its surroundings. Roslin is only 8 miles from Princes Street, so it's well within what is allowed!

Martin C - that was at least an hour and a half worths of travel from Edinburgh on Thursday morning. Leith is the "surroundings" of Edinburgh, not Roslin. Where would you stop - Falkirk? Glasgow?

Townies try to appropriate everything!

Anonymous: fyi, Leith and Edinburgh were merged in 1920. Oh - and it's my blog so I make the rules :-D

At first it looks like a romantic place, but the background information changed that. Historical is the right word I guess.
And Dido, I think that no one else should decide for you what pictures from where you can post on your own blog. In fact, I quite like it when you show us things from outside of Edinburgh too.

I was born in Roslin in 1932, and it was the most wonderful Place to be brought up in.
But unfortunately it has been taken over by townies, who have imposed their ways and customs on what was once a quiet friendly wee village where everyone knew and chatted to each other, but it has now just become a part of Edinburgh.

ll create an interior design London that. s surprising, then,
the number for whom restaurant interior design is only a secondary consideration.
In the past, most modern interior design was found in offices; now more and more homes are
employing the styles of modern interior design.

Hi! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any problems with hackers?

My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing months of hard work due to
no backup. Do you have any methods to stop hackers?

Organizations decorate for that season as well. In
centuries past fires were utilized for cooking, warmth from your factors and,
frequently times safety from animals that preyed around the defenseless.
But that extra cheerfulness might be positively contagious and promote
your online business "without the sales pitch" during the holiday season and
long following.
